We are recruiting for the roles of Demographic Transition Adviser in DRC, Ghana and the Sahel. The role in Ghana will include some regional responsibilities. The post covering the Sahel will be based in Cote d’Ivoire with regular travel to the Sahel and some responsibilities in Cote d’Ivoire.
These roles will shape the UK Government’s new approach to supporting African partners prepare to benefit from an inclusive demographic transition in Sub-Saharan Africa. This is a high profile and exciting policy area at the heart of cross-Whitehall Government Departments new strategic approach to supporting African nations’ development and poverty reduction objectives.
These posts will develop new approaches, tools, evidence and programmes within DFID and across the UK government. It will be critical to bringing in new ways of working, that will support much more joined up approaches to drive forward the UK government’s new step change in supporting a demographic transition in Sub-Saharan Africa. The post holders will develop new partnership including with business, faith actors and southern organisations working at the grassroots, which are all critical to bringing the changes in attitudes and practice that will underpin progress.

The key essential criteria of this role are as follows:
Essential:
• Commission and undertake political, social, economic and policy analysis related to population trends and impact on development;
• Make effective use of data on demographic trends for policy advocacy and be able to assess the impact of policy changes on demographic change;
• Work effectively across social and economic development, including resource allocation and policy coherence to support demographic transition (including aid funded programmes) e.g. health and education sector planning;
• Awareness of the political and cultural sensitives related with demographics and supporting a demographic transition.
