Ashesi University seeks an outstanding leader-teacher-scholar with energy and vision to serve as the Lead of the Writing Center and develop our emerging Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) initiative.

The Dean of Arts and Sciences invites applications for the Lead/Director of the Writing Center. With an Assistant Director and a staff of student tutors, the Writing Center supports writing instruction for students and faculty across Ashesi's campus.

The Lead/Director reports to the Dean of Arts and Sciences with the following responsibilities: interview, train, and supervise peer tutors; maintain the Writing Center schedules (staffing and tutorial sessions); lead Writing development programs (e.g. workshops for students or faculty); maintain and report annually on Writing Center statistics and records; mentor and advise the Assistant Director of the Writing Center; collaborate with faculty in Writing across the Curriculum and Writing in the Disciplines programs; assess Writing Center results; and teach 2 Language courses (Text and Meaning or Written and Oral Communication) each year (which can include an upper-level Writing Center training course). The search committee is especially interested to hear from candidates who will bring to their administrative work and teaching the diverse perspectives that come from non-traditional educational backgrounds or an understanding of the experience of those under-represented in higher education

The successful candidate with expertise in English and preferably a strong background in African studies will have a teaching load that allows her/him to serve as faculty administrator

This is a full-time, non-tenure-track academic position with a benefits package. Summer salary supplement for directing and keeping the Writing Center open during summer sessions. Summer teaching for additional pay is optional.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. preferred. Experience teaching college-level writing, tutorial work and administrative experience in Writing Centers preferred. Evidence of scholarly engagement with the field of writing pedagogy and Writing Center administration is also desirable.
