Job Description: Responsibilities & Requirements
Governance is one of the focal areas of Germany’s development cooperation portfolio in Ghana. GIZ implements two Governance programmes, Good Financial Governance (GFG) and the Support for Decentralisation Reforms (SfDR) Programme to support the Government of Ghana to implement its national development strategy. GFG supports reforms in the areas of tax administration and tax policy, public financial management, domestic accountability and resource governance. Its main partners are the Ministry of Finance, the Ghana Revenue Authority, the Ghana Audit Service, and the Parliamentary Accounts and Finance Committees. SfDR supports the implementation of decentralisation reforms at the local level by strengthening the districts’ institutional capacities for revenue management, budgeting and integrated district planning, by improving cooperation between the key actors of the decentralisation process and by improving data-based development planning for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. Its main partners are the Ministry of Local Governance and Rural Development, the National Development Planning Commission, ten Regional Coordination Councils, 60 District Assemblies and various civil society organisations. For our operations in Ghana/Accra, we are looking for dynamic people to integrate temporarily in our Governance team and contribute to our above-mentioned goals.
Your tasks
As an intern you will work as part of both programmes (GFG & SfDR). Your main tasks will include:
Being the responsible focal point for the newly introduced collaboration tool Microsoft Teams; tasks include the administration of channels, support of existing/training of new staff and updating training concepts;
- Supporting staff in Governance in the introduction of Asana as a project management tool;
- Providing support to the components and assisting the knowledge management and communication system of GIZ Governance, particularly in the use of Microsoft SharePoint;
- Supporting the establishment of a Governance programme page on the GIZ platform “Integrated Digital Applications” (IDA);

- Assisting in the technical and organizational preparation, execution, documentation and evaluation of operational work plan activities of GIZ Governance, in particular in regard to e-participation and e-governance;
- Preparing work documents, overviews, presentations, lists, summaries etc. within the daily collaboration
Your profile
- You hold a Bachelor degree or higher in a related field of IT, finance, economics, political science, administrative science, public policy or spatial planning. You graduated not more than six months ago by the start of the internship; or you are currently enrolled in a postgraduate programme.
- You have a strong affinity towards and gained extensive experience in the use of digital communication and project management tools. Good knowledge in Microsoft Teams, Microsoft SharePoint and/or Asana is a strong asset.
- You have a strong interest in the topics of governance including public finance, tax policy and administration, decentralisation, development planning and/or political economy.
- You are motivated and a team player who can adapt quickly to unfamiliar circumstances.
- You demonstrate strong interest in international and intercultural experiences and, ideally, you have already gained some practical experience in international organisations, governmental institutions or research.
- Your work approach is organized, independent and goal oriented and you are quick to grasp new and complex issues.
- You have strong written and oral communication skills in English as well as very good knowledge of MS-Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
