The Role

Purpose of the role The interim plant manager is responsible for overall Industrial Operations performance and optimization according agreed business targets and long-term, medium and short-term improvement of the production assets and all related efficiencies/costs of the entire supply chain to costumer in line with legal requirements, market requirements and overall B2B/ EMEA strategies and activities within his area of responsibility. You act as an active driver for analysis and development of competitive state of the art structures and processes and sourcing strategies to produce all related product portfolio in a highly efficient way; to leverage Industrial Operations and Supply Chain structures, processes and results to the best of EMEA he proactively cooperates with our stakeholders and corporate colleagues in good teamwork and transparency.

The plant manager is safeguarding all necessary site permissions and documentations following internal policies and legal requirements. You will ensure that all Operations are in compliance with local / regional laws and regulations, it’s policies and practices and that they are aligned with EMEA Industrial Operations policies and procedures and that the agreed quantitative and qualitative objectives and KPIs are reached. The plant manager ensures the efficient and regulatory compliant product and process development activities in Tema, Ghana.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Set-up the proper organisation structure to lead and develop the entire local Operations team (Supply Chain, Production, Warehousing, Technics / Maintenance, QA/QMB, Safety) according agreed plans, our policies and legal framework:
    • Align all resources in an effective & efficient way to support the achievement of agreed plans and actions best;
    • Ensure, that required resources and capabilities available at requested times and secure wellbeing of the personnel;
    • Support the management of the entire factory industrial operations to reach the qualitative and quantitative standards and targets;
    • Support the plant manager to coordinate, manage and develop actively all industrial operations (functions, structures, processes and organisation) to ensure best in class operations on plant level;
    • Initiate and push projects to leverage overall business performance and to add value to the business; fostering of optimization, restructuring and innovative tools and processes for Industrial Operations and driving leading edge technological progresses on local and regional level.

  • Cooperate closely with internal colleagues / functions (EMEA / BG LtD) and external counterparts to deliver continuous improvement in the plant performance; cooperate closely with internal / external stakeholders for delivering continuous improvements in performance.
  • Endorse our safety approach and policies, safeguard implementation of BG LtD / EMEA safety initiatives and be an authentic example of safety leadership.
  • Proactively support fulfilling of legal and auditor requirements concerning assets, equipment and premises, e.g.
  • Support the supervision and coordination legal issues, product compliance and management of change, e.g.:
    • Manage food, contaminant and contact material legislations on the Tema products in close cooperation with e.g quality assurance and quality management within Ghana/EMEA
    • Manage product related changes that affects food safety and quality:

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of work experience as plant manager, preferably in Africa
  • Proven leadership and negotiation skills;
  • Wide experience in people management;
  • Local labor legislation and quality system regulations experience and knowledge;
  • Knowledge and experience of working in a multinational organization / environment; ability to work in decentralized matrix organization.
  • Good project management experience;
  • Experience in production environment and food industry;

Other Requirements

  • Fluent communication skills (both written and spoken) in English;
  • People development / talent management / succession planning.
