Winrock is seeking an individual consultant with expertise in market assessment and financial modeling, with a focus on the agriculture sector. The consultant will support the Sustainable Cocoa Collaboration between Winrock International and ECOM, which is assisting smallholders in transitioning to sustainable, climate smart cocoa production in Ghana. The assignment will entail the development of a business model for shade-grown cocoa in Ghana.
DURATION OF ASSIGNMENT:
Up to 60 days, estimated starting date on May 13, 2019 and ending on October 30, 2019

RESPONSIBILITIES
Specific objectives:
- Identify, analyze and recommend a suitable, viable and sustainable business model(s) to increase smallholder access to Farm Rehabilitation Services for cocoa farms in Ghana
Core activities:
- Analyze existing Farm Rehabilitation Services operational and financial models
- Redefine assumptions on costs, pricing and timelines as needed
- Assess service delivery models, supply chains and distribution channels required to deliver Farm Rehabilitation Services in a sustainable manner
- Define farmer segments to identify the target market
- Redefine pricing structure and repayment models
- Develop concept and business/financial model(s) for target smallholder farmers
- Develop stage-gate criteria for various levels of scale
- Conduct field interviews and engage key stakeholders in meetings to support market analysis and business model development
Deliverables
- Brief work plan
- Market Analysis (incl. demand and supply analysis); presentation for internal and external distribution
- Business Case(s) and Financial Model(s) for Farm Rehabilitation Services
- Tracking and monitoring system for financial and operational flows
- Project completion report including recommendations for next steps forward
QUALIFICATIONS AND BACKGROUND:
Educational requirement:
Undergraduate degree in business, finance, or related; Advanced degree is preferred but not required
Experience, Skills, and Knowledge:
- 3-4 years of strategy/management consulting experience
- Prior experience working in the agriculture sector is preferable
- Prior work experience in Ghana
- Should possess excellent analytical skills with ability to undertake field research
- Excellent communication skills in both written and oral English
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse team and to deliver results in a time-bound manner
- Flexible to travel during the execution of the project
- Strong skills in business software (Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
