About the role
The Country Manager will need to understand the Cellulant strategy and mission; contextualize it to Ghana and drive efficient execution of the same. The successful candidate will lead the country team of about 20 staff ensuring that the team is working towards the company mission and strategy with a clear plan and rapid growth trajectory.
The individual will be responsible for the day to day operations of the business; delivering value, growing aggressively and delighting the customers daily. The country manager will be measured primarily on strategy execution, country revenue and the P&L.
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategy and Operations

Ensure budgets and operating plans are drawn up

Understand the business strategy and know your numbers
-
Run the business day-to-day by producing and directing sound plans, spotting problems by reviewing budget variances, and core activity gaps daily, weekly and monthly

Spot opportunities early, and respond to them aggressively
-
Establish goals and ensure the organization stretches to achieve them
-
Continue to set high and demanding performance standards
-
Set a personal example in terms of work ethic, obvious commitment to the business and consistent quality of your own effort
-
Set deadlines and enforce them for your managers and for all critical organizational activities – closing banks sales, implementing projects and routine customer activation campaigns
-
Get deeply involved in articulating and entrenching desirable company values – that is, “what it is like to work here”
Resource Management

Allocate resources efficiently to revenue streams that produce high returns and keep an eye on unprofitable activities
-
Constantly search for unproductive assets to get them up to par or off the books and always strive to improve productivity
-
Perform tests and carefully segment rollouts to test the market and control costs. When sure the idea will work, go to war to implement with speed
Develop Star Performance

Attract talented managers, develop them, and keep them challenged and effectively deployed

Make the tough calls it takes to upgrade your organization’s performance

Use challenging job assignments to speed up the development of high-potential managers and employees generally. Deal with blockages that get in the way of putting the best people to challenging assignments that promise high returns

Get line managers deeply involved in the performance and productivity upgrading process by putting in place periodic tough-minded appraisals of individuals and teams across the organisation

Link rewards to performance to motivate staff

Look for the simplest ways to do things, which usually means fewer layers, bigger jobs and broader responsibilities

Get personally involved in solving important problems

Organize around people rather than concepts and principals, leveraging the team’s expertise

Routinely bring your managers together to talk about the business, budgets and variances, to get multiple inputs on important projects, and to line up their support. Do check-ins with the entire organisation periodically as well

Routinely visit customers to obtain direct feedback on your company’s products and services
Desired Candidate Profile

You have an Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline
-
You have at least 6 years experience in sales management in the payments, telecom or banking sector
-
You have at least 4 years’ experience in a Senior Leadership role
-
You are able to nurture and maintain high-level relationships with key stakeholders within the private and public sector
-
You are able to ensure that your managers are up to speed with the numbers and operating details of the business as a whole and in their particular function
-
You are result oriented
-
You are able to lead and manage a high-performing team
-
You have a keen eye for detail and have amazing analytical skills
-
Experience in the mobile payments sector is a distinct advantage
-
Experience in business operations is an added advantage
-
Experience in performance marketing is an added advantage
