A majority black-owned, multi-disciplinary South African consulting engineering practice which has been active throughout Southern Africa since 1972. Currently the company has a staff complement of about 250 in 10 offices across South Africa and 4 offices in southern Africa.
Job Description
Job Responsibilities
- Fulfil all obligations delegated to the RE in terms of the Conditions of Contract (FIDIC) for the Construction Works Contract;
- Manage day-to-day construction monitoring of the project;
- Manage a team of the Engineer’s site personnel;
- Monitor and report on training, empowerment, OHS and environmental issues;
- Oversee operations and activities of the acceptance quality control;
- Contract administration (dealing with queries from stakeholders, record keeping of drawings and instructions; measurement and payment; site meetings, client, technical and other project meetings including keeping records and minuting);
- Issuing instructions and drawings to the contractor, co-ordinate and inspect the execution of the Works by the contractor;
- Prepare and issue Variation Orders;
- Measure, check and control quantities and issue certificates for payment to the Contractor;
- Report on progress, compile estimates and forecasts;
- Implement and maintain the Quality Management System;
- Compile taking-over Certificates, as-built records and plans;
- Any other responsibilities as assigned by the Project Director.
Qualifications
- A minimum of BSc Civil Engineering
- At least a minimum of 15 years post-qualification experience in Civil Engineering.
- Must have supervised the construction of at least two terminal buildings and/or airfield pavement projects within the last 10 years.
- In addition, should also have been a Resident Engineer on any multi-story building and/or airfield pavement construction projects of similar complexity.
- Must be a corporate member of a relevant professional body such as ECSA / ICE.
- A PMI Project Management Professional or a PRINCE 2 Practitioner or its equivalent
Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to manage a team.
- Detail and process orientated.
- Punctual and professional.
- Effective time management with the ability to follow through.
- Good rapport with stakeholders and an energetic approach to work.
- Must have no legal impediment to obtain a Ghanaian work permit.
