Job Summary:
An international NGO, partnering with Ghana Health Service, and other international and local partners to reduce maternal mortality by increasing access to reproductive health services is recruiting mentors for selected urban project sites. Our program works to support women to adopt new behavior in seeking and using reproductive health services to meet their needs. One-to-one visits are carried out by community volunteers to provide reproductive health information to enable and support women to seek and obtain needed reproductive health services.
The purpose of the Mentor position will be to provide field-based supportive supervision and coach our trained community-based volunteers to improve interpersonal communication and counseling skills and build trusting relationships with the women they serve in the community.
Assignment Length: One year, renewable by mutual agreement and availability of funds

Roles & Responsibilities
- Responsible for coaching 8-10 volunteers
- Use MIS data and direct on-the-job observation of Volunteers to evaluate and identify individual support needs concerning provision of supportive counseling, referral, and follow-up services
- Provide counseling to women who may need counseling beyond volunteers’ capacity
- Report findings and progress to management and recommend systematic solutions to improve volunteer performance
- Conduct on-the-job training for volunteers and project staff to improve interpersonal communication, counseling, trust building, and conflict resolution
- Review MIS data with management to monitor trends, challenges, and individual volunteer contribution to project objectives.
- Perform other duties assigned by Country Office Management Team
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, public health, social sciences, education, or another related field
- At least 3 years’ experience in community health or education; or other demonstrated direct experience in counseling and/or interpersonal communication with community members
- Fluency in Ga and English
Skills and Competencies
- Ability and willingness to undertake extensive urban fieldwork
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Passion for contributing to improving women’s reproductive rights and lives.
- Strong time management, organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interpret basic data
Job Category: Field
Job Salary: Commensurate with experience
Location: Teshie-Accra. Requires 70% of time conducting fieldwork in Osu, La, Teshie and Nungua communities
