Background
Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) is a United States-based non-profit organization dedicated to creating, evaluating and replicating innovative solutions to poverty and policy problems worldwide. IPA specializes in using the randomized controlled trial methodology to evaluate the impact of development programs.
IPA in partnership with the World Bank Africa Gender Innovation Lab and the Finance, Competitiveness and Innovation Global Practice are conducting a study known as the SME Investment and Gender. The SME Investment and Gender study builds upon a previous experiment conducted among Ghanaian micro and small firms. Local partners have implemented its different components – providing access to financial services, training beneficiaries and disbursing grants. The experiment is designed to further our understanding of what works to help women develop their businesses. Notably, the research team seeks to better understand whether and under what conditions cash grants can increase the profits of the female-owned firm.
IPA will be conducting the first round of follow up surveys in January 2019 across enumeration areas in the Accra Metropolis and seeks to hire Field Supervisors, Team Leaders, Auditors, and Interviewers.
Responsibilities
Interviewers are responsible for administering the various modules of the follow-up study and collecting the data according to IPA data collection protocols. Specifically, the surveyor:
- Administer the Women and Men Questionnaire to the assigned eligible respondents.
- Ensure that surveys are administered in an ethical, honest, and rigorous manner;
- Adhere to all other IPA survey protocols;
- Maintain confidentiality of data gathered;
- Conduct back checks on administered surveys;
- Prior experience in working with IPA evaluation projects in SMEs;
Required Skills or Experience
Specific requirements
- Must have good verbal communication skills.
- Experience in administering household surveys.
General Qualifications (All positions)
- Minimum of a diploma qualification in any field;
- Prior experience with Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) is preferable;
- Fluency in English and any of these local languages – Ga, Twi and Ewe
- Working knowledge of Accra Metropolis.
