Job Description

Job Purpose

  • Sourcing and extension officers are the hpw fresh & dry representatives in the field and the constant link to a group of supplying growers that they are allocated to. They oversee collection of information for the short- and medium-term planning of the factory supplies. They provide the farmers with technical information to increase yield and to ensure that raw material demand of the factory can be met. 
  • In the field, they are also in charge of the communication and follow up of supply orders, as well as the necessary due diligence, to ensure compliance of supplied fruits with applicable standards. As a main tool for his extension work, the sourcing and extension officer maintains a trial plot in the area where his supplier group is located.

 

Job Duties

  • Carries out supplier assessment and makes inputs for management decisions on supplier approval.
  • Follows up on supplier certifications and monitors the application of Good Agricultural Practices.
  • Takes charge of supporting an allocated group of growers.
  • Maintains up to date forecast of raw material availability for the allocated and submits his forecast data to the sourcing manager for the preparation of the supply schedule.
  • Provides her/his group of farmers with technical support relating to production and harvest where needed and acquires further technical advice from his manager where issues come up that she/he cannot address directly.
  • Coordinates raw material supply to the factory based on supply schedule issued by the sourcing manager
  • Communication and coordination of harvesting time
  • Monitoring of quality from field to factory
  • Coordination of collection centres and logistics
  • Maintains relations with growers; supports and advices growers
  • Communicates and enforces raw material specifications towards growers.
  • Collection of production data from his group to monitor progress in terms of yield development. Based on his experience he makes suggestion to improve production manuals.
  • Submission of data collected with mobile devices.

 

Required Skills or Experience

  • Minimum of Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent in Agricultural Science or related field. 
  • Minimum of two years relevant work experience in a similar role, preferably in a fruit processing environment.
  • Good technical knowledge in pineapple and mango production
  • Good report writing skills 
  • High level of Integrity and Accountability.
  • Ability to work independently and with less supervision.
  • Effective time-management skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing and challenging environment.
  • Possess a valid Motorbike/Driving license.
