Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) is the local chapter of Transparency International (TI), the global civil society organization leading the fight against corruption. GII seeks to fight corruption and promote good governance in the daily lives of people and institutions by forging strong, trusting and effective partnerships with government, business and civil society and engagement with people.
Background
The Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) is seeking to engage a Qualified Researcher to undertake a corruption risk assessment in the awarding of mining sector permits, licences and contracts at the national level in Ghana. The Researcher will conduct the risk assessment using a tool developed by Transparency International (TI) as part of a new multi-stakeholder ‘Mining for Sustainable Development’ Programme aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability in the mining sector across the globe.
Description of Tasks
The Researcher will be expected to produce a risk assessment report within agreed timelines by specifically carrying out the following tasks in collaboration with GII and External Experts:
- Implement the risk assessment methodology developed by TI
- Conduct a thorough desk review of existing information
- Conduct a mapping of the award and licencing process and the actors involved in Ghana
- Adapt a set of pre-identified risks to the national context
- Conduct interviews and focus group discussions with key individuals and organisations
- Rate corruption risks based on an assessment of their likelihood and potential impact
- Prioritise corruption risks and develop recommendations as a basis for advocacy
- Produce a final risk assessment report incorporating feedback from GII and other stakeholders
- Keep GII updated on progress and any challenges encountered on a regular basis throughout the project
- Contribute to the launch of the risk assessment report
Required Skills or Experience
Selection Criteria
- Relevant experience in the mining sector either professionally or in a research or academic capacity
- Qualifications and experience in social sciences, international development or other relevant field
- Experience in conducting qualitative and/or participatory research projects and engaging effectively with relevant stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare reports that translate research results into information for action
- Demonstrated commitment to transparency and anti-corruption
