We are seeking a self-motivated Farm Manager. The selected farm manager will be responsible for:
- Raising layer and broiler birds from dayold to maturity
- Maintaining satisfactory production levels for layers and broilers at all times
- Ensuring biosafety and security at the farm
- Manage farm workers and ensure the farm operations are professionally and efficiently managed
- Supervise the work and activities at the feed mill
- Responsible for marketing of processed meat and eggs
- Ensure that adequate books and proper records are kept using accounting software and a technology platform
- Submit to management a monthly progress report
- Ensure all physical assets, pen houses and facilities are maintained and kept in good order
- Ensure feed suppliers (maize, soya and other feed ingredients) are supplied, inventorized at all times
Required Skills or Experience
- At least 3 years’ experience managing a commercial poultry farm producing both layers and broilers
- Excellent command of English, both written and spoken
- Strong people management skills, including a thorough understanding of how to supervise unskilled personnel
- Excellent report writing skills and ability to use technology platform with minimum training
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in agriculture or agribusiness with specialization in animal production (poultry)
- Obsessed with keeping higher standards of biosafety and understand the impact of poor bio-safety measures in poultry farm
- Highly quantitative – you are a data-driven decision maker
- Intellectually curious and an original thinker
- Process driven – the ends don’t always justify the means for you
- Empathetic leader – your EQ is as high as your IQ
- Passionate about working in a business with strong social impact and committed to new ways of doing things
- Passionate about innovative technology
- Have a consultative approach to problem-solving for clients
- Able to market agricultural commodities
- Able to manage supplies and inventories and ability to forecast supply demands
- Able to network in the poultry industry
