The Registrar is the Chief Operating Officer of the University College and in accordance with policy directives of the council, is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the University. The Registrar is also Secretary to the Office of the Chancellor, the University Council and the Academic Board.

S/He provides strategic advice and briefings to the President and is expected to provide leadership and management across a wide range of activities and shall guide the framework within which policies shall be made

  • The Registrar shall be responsible for the custody of the University seal and for affixing it to documents following the directions of the council and the academic board in the exercise of their respective powers under the statutes
  • The Registrar shall be responsible for compiling the list of graduating students and ensuring the production and insurance of certificates and transcripts and all other relevant and related students academic records and documents
  • The Registrar shall be responsible for the custody of all legal documents and records of the university
  • The registrar shall cause to be published in the University Bulletin at the end of the each semester, all policy decisions of the council and the academic board
  • The Registrar shall provide leadership in stepping up the marketing of the University in such a way as to attract quality students and increase students enrolment
  • The Registrar shall be responsible for developing the human resources of the University to equipment them with the requisite skills, knowledge and abilities to perform effectively

The Person

  • Must be of unblemished character and have a high degree of personal integrity
  • Must have mature and sober judgement and must be a team player
  • Must possess strong intellect with excellent inter-personal and communication skills
  • Must be principled with strong and proven sense of public morality and integrity

The applicant should also have evidence of the following qualities

  • A deep appreciation of the academic working environment
  • An understanding of the history and evolution of universities, local higher education policy and practice
  • Considerable experience in dealing with a variety of internal and external publics

Qualification Required & Experience

Applicants seeking appointment as Registrar must possess the M.Phil, MBA, M.A or equivalent professional qualification in the relevant discipline, preferably, Human Resource Management Public Administration, General management, etc. In addition, they must have served as Deputy Registrar or Principal Assistant Registrar or equivalent grade in an analogous institution for a minimum of 10 years. In the case of an officer in the position of Deputy Registrar, a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience is required

Terms of Appointment

The Registrar shall hold office for an initial term of 3 years. The appointment may be renewed upon application for a period determined by the Governing Council. The applicant should be no older than 63 years by January 2025.
