Job Description

Terms of Reference: Communications Assistant

  • Contract Type: Consultancy Contract
  • Contract Duration:  Six (6) months and working a maximum of 15 days in a Month in the office and in the field.
  • Expected Start Date: 1 April 2025.
  • Duty Station: The Communications Assistant shall be based in Tamale, Ghana but should be available to travel within Ghana.

Background

2SCALE is an incubator and accelerator program that manages a portfolio of public private partnerships (PPPs) for inclusive business in agri-food sectors and industries. With the financial support from the Dutch government, the 2SCALE program started in 2012 and will end in December 2025. It has been one of the largest incubators of inclusive agribusiness in sub-Saharan Africa.

2SCALE provides a range of support services to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), who act as lead firms. Together with producer organizations, agribusiness clusters and other grassroot actors, the program enable them to produce, transform and supply quality food products to local, national and regional end-user markets, including BoP consumers, while at the same time developing fair and sustainable relations with smallholder farmers and other local entrepreneurs.

Over the past few years, 2SCALE has impacted significantly on smallholder agriculture and agribusiness across sub-Saharan Africa. The targets were ambitious, but they have been met or exceeded, thanks to the commitment from farmers, other grassroot actors and the private sector.

To consolidate the gains and facilitate knowledge exchange and experience sharing, the 2SCALE program is seeking the support of a communications assistant to support the country team in communication related tasks for 2025.

Principal tasks and responsibilities

  • Support the 2SCALE program in the execution of key events, including the 2SCALE close-out events and stakeholder meetings. 
  • Manage event logistics such as sending invitations, tracking RSVPs, and coordinating with vendors, speakers, and participants. 
  • Draft compelling and engaging social media captions tailored to different platforms. 
  • Capture high-quality photos during events and ensure timely dissemination. 
  • Develop key messaging and storytelling approaches to highlight the impact of 2SCALE’s final phase. 
  • Design visibility materials, including banners, brochures, and branded merchandise, while ensuring brand consistency. 
  • Collaborate with videographers to prepare an after movie of the closeout event.
  •  Identify key learnings, successes, and areas for improvement to enhance future events.

Required Skills or Experience

Required skills

  • Writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to craft compelling social media captions and event summaries.
  • Experience in event coordination, including, stakeholder engagement, and follow-ups.
  • Proficiency in photography and basic photo editing for event documentation.
  • Familiarity with videography coordination and working with livestreaming service providers.
  • Ability to design visibility materials such as banners and brochures while maintaining brand consistency.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in managing invitations, RSVPs, and stakeholder communication.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong report writing skills.
  • And any other task assigned to the communications assistant by the country team.

Education and Work Experience

  • At least a first degree in Development Communication, Communication Studies, Journalism and other related fields.
  • Two to three years working experience in a similar role.
  • Good understanding of Inclusive Business approach will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in coordinating and managing stakeholder events.
  • Experience in media (print and electronic) engagement for features.
  • Experience in in the dissemination of relevant project information to varied stakeholders.
