Our client, a growing business engaged in the production of concrete blocks using high-quality materials, is seeking an experienced accountant. The accountant would be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and tax regulations for a concrete block manufacturing company. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to analyse financial data to support business decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Accounting:
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date general ledger accounts.
- Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement).
- Ensuring compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Analysing financial data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for cost reduction.

Accounts Payable and Receivable:
- Processing accounts payable invoices, including those for raw materials (cement, sand, aggregates), utilities, and other operational expenses.
- Reconciling vendor accounts and resolving discrepancies.
- Processing customer invoices, including those for sales of concrete blocks.
- Monitoring accounts receivable ageing and taking necessary steps to collect overdue payments.
Inventory Management:
- Assisting in the management of inventory, including tracking raw materials, work in progress, and finished goods.
- Conducting physical inventory counts and reconciling with accounting records.
- Analysing inventory turnover and identifying areas for improvement.
Tax Compliance:
- Preparing and filing tax returns (VAT, Income Tax, etc.)
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations.
Cost Accounting:
- Tracking production costs, including raw material costs, labour costs, and overhead expenses.
- Analysing production costs to identify areas for cost reduction and improve profitability.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts.
- Monitoring actual performance against budget and providing variance analysis.

Key Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting and finance, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Xero) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
