Reports To: Senior WASH Engineering Manager
BACKGROUND

Global Communities is looking for a WASH Engineer to provide technical expertise for Ghana's USAIDfunded Enhancing WASH Activity program. This program focuses on collaboration between government and private sectors to ensure that citizens in northern Ghana adopt and sustain improved Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) practices. We seek experts with experience in WASH infrastructure, water supply delivery, and governance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Immediate Duties:
- Design userfriendly toilet and handwashing facilities for basic schools, including kindergartens.
- Develop and design suitable school water supply systems and assist in designing community water supply systems.
- Monitor and provide technical support for hydrogeological studies and borehole drilling in selected project communities, including reviewing water quality tests and pumping test reports.
- Develop Facility Management Plans (FMPs) and financial models for the operation and maintenance of communal water supply systems and sanitation facilities.
General Duties:
- Provide technical support to implementing partners on latrine construction.
- Keep accurate records of materials purchased and used.
- Monitor the implementation of projects by subawardees.
- Capture live photos of all water and sanitation implementations in project communities.
- Document all processes, outputs, and lessons learned from all assignments undertaken.
These duties are not exhaustive, and the position holder will be required to demonstrate commitment to:
- Traveling by road/air for project field activities on short notice.
- Carrying out any other reasonable official duties as assigned by the supervisor from time to time.

Required Skills or Experience
Qualifications
- A minimum of an advanced diploma in civil engineering, structural engineering, marine engineering or a similar academic qualification
- At least five years of experience in implementing donor-funded programs in water and sanitation in one or more of the following areas: WASH infrastructure provision, governance, private sector development or public/private partnerships
- Valid membership of a recognized accredited professional institution e.g. Ghana Institution of Engineers (GhIE) is an advantage
- Prior USAID or donor-funded project experience in Ghana or within the African sub-region is an advantage
- Demonstrated experience working cooperatively with a variety of local stakeholders, other projects and international agencies
- Proficiency in at least two Ghanaian local language(s) with a preference for Northern regional dialects.
Competencies
- Ability to work effectively within teams
- Familiarity with contractual and compliance obligations of sub-contractors, tendering and procurement processes in the construction industry and WASH sector.
- Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and similar engineering software
- Negotiation and analytical skills
