Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd. (“AGGL”) is a joint venture between Galiano Gold Inc. and Gold Fields. The primary asset is the Multi-Pit Asanko Gold Mine complex, located in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Galiano Gold Inc. are the managers and operators of the Asanko Gold Mine.

Job Description

A vacancy exists in our Mining Department for the position of: MINE GEOLOGIST

JOB PURPOSE

To perform geological activities essentially to ore mining and GC drilling to ensure minimum dilution and ore losses.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure alignment with mining production requirements to achieve short-term mining targets.
  • Supervise selective mining activities in the pit and grade control drilling activities.
  • Direct and tally delivery of ore from the pit to the right destination on the ROMPAD and tally the number of loads.
  • Liaise with other mining personnel to achieve grade, ore production and GC targets.
  • Reconcile pit tallies and ROM tallies at the close of shifts and ensure all materials arrived at their right destinations on the ROM.
  • Supervise and assist with stockpile management and provide inputs to end-of-month reporting and reconciliations.
  • Supervise GC field activities, setting up, drilling, sampling & geological logging.
  • Sample QA/QC protocol implementation and organize logistics for effective shift change.
  • Ore polygon generation for mining and supervise ore mining.
  • Prepare daily and weekly geology production reports.
  • Blast monitoring (OrePro, BMT) pre/post activities.
  • Submit comprehensive shift reports on production and other geological-related activities.

Required Skills or Experience

Knowledge

  • A degree in Geology, Geological Engineering or any mining-related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in mine geology.
  • Excellent geological mapping skills.
  • Experience in geological block modelling for grade control (MP3 preferred).
  • Proficiency in geological and mining-related software (Surpac, Micromine, AcQuire).
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and sustainability in mining.
  • Understanding of open-pit mining processes.
  • Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving license.

  • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret geological and geochemical data.
  • Ability to optimize ore extraction and grade control strategies.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, organizational, technical, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and innovative mining solutions.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of standards, methods, and procedures to work situations.
  • Good team player in tasks involving cross-functional teams.
  • Results-oriented drive and solid work ethic, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to train and mentor team members and demonstrate safety leadership.
