The Senior Staff Midwife holds a critical position in delivering exceptional, evidence-based maternity care to women and their families throughout the antenatal, labour, delivery, and postnatal stages. This role is integral to ensuring the highest standards of clinical practice and patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- • Provide comprehensive care to women and newborns during pregnancy, labor, and the postnatal period, adhering to the latest clinical guidelines.
- • Assess risks and manage complex cases in collaboration with obstetricians and other healthcare specialists.
- • Supervise and mentor junior staff, ensuring efficient daily operations within the maternity and nursing unit.
- • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation to support the delivery of high-quality care.
- • Uphold evidence-based practices, infection control protocols, hospital policies, and relevant health regulations.
- • Monitor fetal well-being using appropriate diagnostic tools and interventions.
- • Ensure informed consent is obtained for all procedures and interventions.
- • Undertake other responsibilities associated with the role, as required.

Required Skills and Competencies
- • Patient-centered approach to care.
- • Demonstrated expertise in managing high-risk pregnancies and obstetric emergencies.
- • Strong clinical midwifery skills with the ability to think critically in complex situations.
- • Leadership and team management capabilities.
- • Effective communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- • Ability to perform under pressure and respond effectively to emergencies.
Qualifications
- • Registered Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana.
- • Bachelor’s degree in Midwifery (preferred).
- • Diploma in Midwifery (minimum requirement).
