- Position location: Accra, Ghana
- Reports to: Head of Finance and Operations
- Duration: 3 years (Subject to funding availability)

Eduwatch is a sub-awardee of the Strengthening Accountability in Ghana's Education System (SAGES) Systems Strengthening Activity being implemented by CARE with support from USAID. The Activity is a five-year program that aims to improve the accountability of the education system in Ghana, with a focus on improving the performance of education system actors, improving education management, and increasing citizen engagement.

The purpose of the Strengthening Accountability in Ghana's Education System (SAGES) Systems Strengthening Activity is to improve primary education service delivery through institutionalizing accountability in the Ghanaian primary education system.
Expected Outcomes
- Enabling environment for accountability established through effective implementation of activities.
- Performance and interactions of all key actors improved through increased institutional capacity to implement systems for accountability at the Ministry of Education (MOE) and its agencies.
- Data management systems for accountability enhanced in MOE and its agencies.
- Data dissemination and utilization to enhance accountability
Africa Education Watch is therefore looking for a Project Accountant to be based in Accra to support the implementation of The Strengthening Accountability in Ghana's Education System (SAGES). The Project Accountant will support the processing of payments for the implementation of project activities. The position requires a candidate with a strong finance and accounting background. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated the ability to accurately capture, review and process payments, and ensure all transactions are adequately documented and reported.
Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate completion of staff timesheets and allocation of staff time according to Eduwatch and USAID policies.
- Review and process travel advances, sub-recipients, and payments to vendors
- Work alongside the Head of Finance and Operations to safeguard the financial systems and ensure efficiency and accountability throughout the life of the project
- Entering all financial transactions in QuickBooks Enterprise (QBE) accounting software
- Verify that supporting documents are attached to every transaction
- Prepare monthly financial certification package including all supporting schedules and the trial balance for submission
- Support the preparation of documentation to support audit samples
- Maintain all financial files.
- Prepare a monthly bank reconciliation.
- Work on VRPOs for vendors.
- Maintain the fixed asset register
- Support Annual filing of group financial reports with Registrar Generals Department, Filing of locally audited financial report with GRA and Annual renewal of Municipal and National NGO certificate
- Support the preparation of monthly payroll accrual and benefit journals
- Preparation of monthly staff payroll for review and approval and timely payments of all statutory deductions (PAYE, SSNIT, Withholding tax).

- Preparation of payment vouchers, purchase orders, bid evaluations, item receipts and receipt vouchers for review and approvals and conducting BI search on all vendors
- Ensure timely payment of utility bills and to keep accurate track of payment
- Enforce the application of appropriate procedures and internal controls
- Support the Head of Finance and Operations in preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual and ad hoc financial and programmatic reports, as necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or accounting with at least 5 years of relevant experience of which 3 years must be in a donor-funded project.
- Fully qualified member of any professional accounting body preferably ICA.
- Experience working on a USAID project is preferable.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Strong multitasking skills and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Fluency in English.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
