The Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NRA) is an independent regulatory body established by the NRA Act, 2015 (Act 895) and began operations in January 2016. The NRA has a statutory responsibility for regulating civilian use of nuclear and other radioactive materials and is preparing itself to regulate Ghana’s nuclear power programme.
Job Description
The NRA is seeking to recruit to fill various positions in its organisational structure. The NRA hereby invites qualified Ghanaians to apply for any of the positions listed below.
A Fire Engineer for the nuclear regulatory body is responsible for reviewing, implementing, and maintaining fire safety systems and procedures in nuclear power plants and other nuclear facilities. The substantive may be required to provide support to occupational health and safety programme of the Authority.
The job description includes:
- Review and inspection of fire safety design and analysis including fire detection, suppression, and alarm systems, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards on nuclear fire safety such as the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) and IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) standards.
- Review of fire risk assessment, fire safety inspections, and fire protection system installation and maintenance, including overseeing installation, testing, and maintenance of fire protection systems.
- Review of fire emergency response plans, the conduct of drills, training of personnel on fire response procedures, fire evacuation plans, and fire prevention plans.

Required Skills or Experience
Minimum Education
- Master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field. Bachelors degree in any of the above with significant experience in fire engineering could be considered.
Certifications & Knowledge
- Fire Protection Certification helpful, and good understanding of fire safety principles, nuclear regulations, etc. (NFPA, IAEA, ASME) also helpful.
Experience
- Minimum 2 - 5-years of experience in fire engineering.
- Nuclear knowledge will be an advantage.
