The Customs Clearance Officer is responsible for ensuring that shipments meet all applicable laws to facilitate the import and export of goods. This role involves preparing and submitting documentation required to clear goods through customs, tracking shipments, and resolving any issues that arise during the clearance process.
Key Responsibilities:
Documentation Preparation:
- Prepare and review import/export documents such as customs declarations, invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
- Ensure all documentation complies with local and international regulations and standards.
Customs Compliance:
- Stay up-to-date with changes in customs regulations and tariffs.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant customs laws and regulations.
- Coordinate with customs officials to ensure smooth and timely clearance of shipments.

Coordination and Communication:
- Coordinate with shipping lines, freight forwarders, and transport companies to arrange the movement of goods.
- Communicate with clients to provide updates on the status of their shipments and resolve any issues.
Problem Solving:
- Identify and resolve any issues that may cause delays in the customs clearance process.
- Handle discrepancies and non-conformities, ensuring proper documentation and communication.
Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records of all customs clearance activities.
- Manage and archive documentation for future reference and compliance audits.
Cost Management:
- Monitor and manage costs associated with the customs clearance process.
- Negotiate with service providers to obtain the best rates.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, or related field.
- Minimum of [2] years of experience in customs clearance or a similar role.
- In-depth knowledge of customs regulations, tariffs, and documentation.
- Proficiency in using customs clearance software and tools.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.

Working Conditions:
- Office-based with occasional travel to ports, warehouses, or customs offices as required.
- May require working outside regular business hours to ensure timely customs clearance.
