Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd. (“AGGL”) is a joint venture between Galiano Gold Inc. and Gold Fields. The primary asset is the Multi-Pit Asanko Gold Mine complex, located in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Galiano Gold Inc. are the managers and operators of the Asanko Gold Mine.

Job Description

A vacancy exists in our Processing Department for the position of LABORATORY SUPERVISOR

JOB PURPOSE

Coordinate and control the continuous analytical work at the laboratories through the Standard Laboratory Management Systems to achieve accurate analytical results and production targets in a safe, cost-effective manner and in compliance with relevant regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including ICMC, ISO 14001, Environmental, Health & Safety policies;
  • Ensure that Assay, Metallurgical and Photon Assay Laboratories Operations are conducted safely and cost-effectively to meet budget by leading and training employees;

  • Conduct regular inspections at the sample preparations areas to improve good housekeeping and conduct hazard identification with outlined controls for mitigation;
  • Collaborate and implement an effective maintenance program to enhance equipment reliability and spares inventory; 
  • Practice effective compliance with energy source isolation procedures for maintenance and breakdown works;
  • Responsible for the integrity of all samples submitted to the Laboratories regarding safety and security; 
  • Develop, review, implement and train employees on standard operating procedures to ensure compliance with best practices regulations; 
  • Ensure the confidentiality of assay sample results, technical information, and trade secrets of laboratory analytical methods;
  • Ensure availability of standards and conduct Round Robin tests with external tests with external Laboratories; 
  • Strictly adhere to all QA/QC protocols to maintain the required analytical standard practices to promote confidence in laboratory results/reports. 
  • Maintain an up-to-date register of all laboratory equipment and chemicals inventory; 
  • Safeguard all chemicals/reagents under appropriate security and monitoring systems;
  • Perform any other duties assigned by supervisors by Asanko Policies.

Required Skills or Experience

Knowledge

  • Must have a minimum of a Degree in Metallurgy / Laboratory Technology or equivalent in a relevant field, from a recognized institution;
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years of practical Laboratory experience in a mining or related environment, two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory position;
  • Minerals Commission Senior Processing Officer Certificate of Competency.
  • Must be experienced in Process heating systems including Kilns and Ovens.
  • Must be computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (word, excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving license and the ability to drive in rough terrain.

  • Ability to complete an assigned task within the required time frame. 
  • High attention to detail.
  • Compliance with all Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd systems, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Database management and Visio. 
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of AAS, Fire Assay, BLEG and PAL operations/principles and the ability to operate and practice them accurately.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles and be able to perform Cyanide, Caustic and other titrations required on the mine.
