ROLE PURPOSE
The Communications officer will support to development a more visible and enviable corporate image and effectively establish and maintain mutually beneficial relationships between the mine and the publics towards securing a social license for the mine.
She/he will support the facilitation of actions identified in the communications strategy, including media relations, digital media, employee communication and crisis communication.
The role has become necessary because of the significantly increasing need for communications support for mine activities including our 10-year socio-economic development plan, which will require an additional hand in the Unit to support the Superintendent.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task execution.
- Report all incidents and ensure they have been investigated and corrective actions completed on time.
- Act on all corrective actions assigned to you or under your jurisdiction and ensure timely completion.
- Adhere to site’s Environmental Management Plan.
- Accept personal responsibility for his/her own health and safety and that of every mine worker affected by his/her work.
- Work compliantly with the requirement of government of Ghana Agencies, environmental, health and safety legislation and AGAG regulation.
- Comply and follow the operating procedures and environmental rules for the performance of assigned job
- Support the Communications Superintendent to update the Mine’s communications strategy and develop communication plans to achieve Obuasi Mine’s communication goals.
- Assist with conducting annual internal communication and brand audits.
- Support the development of messages for internal communication campaigns.
- Work with Digital Technology to develop and implement a photo and video catalogue.
- Provide photography support for internal events.
- Support in planning and implementing employee events and initiatives.
- Write stories and develop content for External Newsletter
- Assist with developing content for infographic fliers and posters.
- Assist in drafting speeches, speaking notes and project briefs.
- Regularly updating the intranet with fresh stories and information
- Collate stories and events for monthly reports.
- Support with development and implementing social media content plans and manage official social media pages.
- Monitor social media pages and collate analytics to inform strategy and content plans.
- Monitoring news media and provide relevant updates from local, regional and national sources.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders to develop content for publication in the quarterly internal Newsletter and News Flash
- Develop and maintain relations with media organisations.
- Support the dissemination of information on the Mine’s 10-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP) via local radio programmes and other platforms.
- Assist with developing monthly news media clippings report.
- Support the development of SEDP impact stories by liaising closely with the M&E Unit.
- Develop communication plans for community stakeholder engagement.

Qualification Required & Experience
- Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Brand Management, Social Sciences, Information management or related discipline
Experience
- At least 3 years’ experience in communications and public relations, in a similar organizational setting
- Experience with the media is an asset
Technical Competencies
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Research and reporting writing skills
- Demonstrated capacity to undertake media buying and engagement
- Knowledge and experience with PR monitoring tools
- Experience with blogs
- Knowledge and experience with Canva, Indesign, illustrator, photoshop
- Knowledge of basic photography
- Demonstrated capacity to develop scripts and storyboard for short impact videos
- Project Management skills
- Good public speaking skills
- Strong proficiency in Asante Twi
- Knowledge of internationally applicable standards relevant to sustainable development (ICMM, IFC, ESG and SDG on Social Performance, VPSHR, GEITI etc.)
- A good knowledge of shared value-driven community investment
