Job Title: Economic Analyst
Team: Anglophone Africa/ Regional Programs
Contract type: Permanent.
Hours per week: 40 hours
Reporting to: Senior Program Officer
Starting Salary: $29,774 (USD) gross per annum + additional 10% pension contribution, international health cover, flexible working and attractive holiday allowances are additional to the salary (see full list of benefits below).
About the Role:
The Economic Analyst plays a crucial role in achieving the objectives of the Ghana program. They will actively contribute to advancing analytical work on economic issues related to resource governance in Ghana. This involves taking a lead role and making substantial contributions to economic analysis and data that will inform capacity development, policy reform, and advocacy efforts in the areas of energy transition, transition minerals, and revenue management programs in Ghana.
The ideal candidate should possess an understanding and experience in economic policy issues and analysis specific to Ghana. The Economic Analyst is expected to bring technical expertise in extractive governance, economics, energy transition, transition minerals, revenue management, and governance. This expertise will be pivotal in generating expert analysis, conducting research, and providing essential policy advice to support NRGI’s initiatives in driving reform in Ghana.

Working closely with the Ghana team, particularly the Senior Program Officer, the Legal and Economics team, and other relevant teams across NRGI, the job holder will contribute to advancing research, data analysis, knowledge, and advocacy. They will play a key role in shaping and influencing government policy by providing technical assistance, offer expert opinions, policy analysis on critical program issues from the Ghana program. Building strategic and productive relationships with national institutions, government leaders, development partners, civil society, including media, women, and youth groups, as well as the private sector, is also a crucial aspect of the role.
The successful candidate is expected to possess strong analytical skills, and experience in public speaking and presentations. With a background in economics and the extractives industry, they will contribute to advocacy, capacity building and technical assistance efforts by providing expertise, strategies, and interventions, and incorporating global learnings, experiences, and programs into the local context in Ghana.

This role might be for you if have…
- Minimum 5 years experience working as an economic analyst within the field of international development broadly.
- At least 2 years experience working on extractive industry governance in Ghana or at least one of the following fields: public financial management, state-owned enterprise management, energy transition and transition minerals.
- Excellent quantitative analysis skills, including experience synthesizing data sets from multiple sources, and guiding strategic analysis and interpretation.
- Experience working with governmental and non-state actors on development policy issues in Ghana.
- Ability to think conceptually and strategically with a 2–3-year horizon.
- Ability to work well under pressure to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced work environment, as a team player.
- Experience working in a complex or pioneering environment, including supporting and developing opportunities for systemic change.
- Fluent in English with excellent writing, speaking, and presentation skills.
- Excellent cross-cultural communication skills, including ability and/or interest in engaging with the media and using social media (e.g., Twitter) to connect NRGI’s work to relevant current affairs.
Education & Qualifications
First degree in economics or other related fields required. Earlier / additional degree in relevant field (e.g., public policy, finance, law, international development, or engineering) preferred

- Minimum 7-8 years experience working as an economic analyst within the field of international development broadly.
- At least 5 years experience working on extractive industry governance or at least one of the following fields: public financial management, state-owned enterprise management, energy transition or taxation.
- Deep understanding of the interplay between regulations, government, and commercial activities; familiarity with country, and regional initiatives aiming to improve good governance in the extractive industries sector.
- Excellent quantitative analysis skills, including experience developing complex models, synthesizing data sets from multiple sources, and guiding strategic analysis and interpretation.
- Experience providing pragmatic technical assistance on complex policy or business issues to decision-makers. Ability to deliver training and other capacity development interventions to a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Significant experience working regionally, including in Francophone Africa in particular.
- Possess the gravitas, credibility, and ability to initiate and develop strategic relationships and influence key stakeholders at a project, country, and region level; experience engaging with regional institutions in Africa and donors, and institutions that may require different approaches.
- Ability to think conceptually and strategically with a 3-5 year horizon.
- Experience managing and allocating resources efficiently.
- Fluent in French and English with excellent writing, speaking, and presentation skills. Excellent cross-cultural communication skills, including ability and/or interest in engaging with the media and using social media (e.g., Twitter) to connect NRGI’s work to relevant current affairs.
