Access To Basics (ATB) is a grassroots non-profit organization that strives to eradicate poverty and inequalities through the promotion of access to quality education, health, women’s empowerment and livelihoods, advocacy, and policy influencing.  We work with people in deprived communities and the local authorities to achieve our objectives/goals.

Under the overall authority and supervision of the Executive Director, the following are the duties and responsibilities of the Programme Assistant:

Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of the Programme Assistant include providing administrative support to ensure efficient operation of the office. Support the Executive Director and team through a variety of tasks related to organization and communication. Contribute to the development of new activities.

1. Programme Administration

  • Provide support for the day-to-day operations of the office and the Executive Director’s calendar of meetings/activities
  • Organise, research, and deliver on delegated activities
  • Assist in developing  Annual Work Plans and implementation; 
  • Support, as needed, with fundraising and outreach efforts
  • Assist the Executive Director in planning Board Meetings and Activities
  • Develop and maintain electronic and manual filling systems and procedures
  • Manage office inventory, office space, and facilities.
  • Provide logistical and other support for internal and external events, visits, contacts, and services
  • Support the planning and implementation of outreach activities and technical support to target communities.
  • Processing Payment Vouchers for ATB Vendors.

 2. Project Support

  • Support needs assessment activities in communities identified for support and identify priority interventions in coordination with other key actors, and stakeholders in the area.
  • Support in establishing and implementing monitoring procedures on projects and other outreach activities to track the progress of set activities/targets
  • Provide support to develop concept notes, project proposals, and submission of grant applications.
  • Assist in project planning, scheduling, and implementation in adherence to the organization/donors policies and practices, and be guided by ATB vision and project goals to achieve the anticipated results.
  • Provide support in the implementation of project activities to ensure targets are met in accordance with the Work Plans, and conduct field visits to project areas with reporting. 

 3. Communication and knowledge management

  • Assist in producing content for the ATB Website and newsletters, linking to outreach and campaign objectives as needed.
  • Update and administer the ATB online Donation page and Donor Databases 
  • Draft written outputs, including concept notes, briefings, analytical notes, reports, and inputs to publications; and for meetings, etc.
  • Facilitate information sharing among colleagues, stakeholders, and the donor

4. Networking and partnership building

  • Maintain and foster positive working relationships with partners and liaise with relevant stakeholders for project implementation; 
  • Identify funding and partnership opportunities.

Education

  • A University First Degree (Bachelor) in development studies, business administration, sociology, social work, or other related areas.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible relevant experience in administration and project management,
  • Experience in working on issues related to poverty alleviation, women empowerment, youth skills development, employment, and gender mainstreaming approaches in development initiatives.
  • Experience in project management including, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Experience working in rural communities, preferably in Africa.
  • Languages
  • Excellent knowledge (written and spoken) of English and some local languages in the communities in which ATB operates.
