Key Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF POSITION

To strategically manage and coordinate the THRIVE 2030 project in 15 area programs for improved and resilient livelihoods for small-holder farmers. The Project Manager will increase food security and resilience, climate-smart technologies, market engagement and value chains, microfinance, gender, and nutritive-sensitive agriculture that aims at improving the well-being of children.

The Project Manager will ensure effective and timely management of the project within the approved budget. H/she will work to ensure donor compliance (adherence to technical specifications, program quality and management quality standards, branding, visibility requirements, communication, financial management, and compliance).

The role will provide leadership and line management to 1 Finance Officer, 1 Driver, PM&E Specialist-Livelihood, GESI Specialist, and a Value Chain and Market Systems Specialist during the lifetime of the project. The Project Manager will also work with Project Officers within APs/Projects to ensure impactful, high-quality programming and work with program partners, i.e.Vision Fund Ghana, Farm Concern International, Dream Start Labs, and community stakeholders.

Project Planning and Implementation

  • Provide technical leadership to the THRIVE 2030 Project in planning, designing, monitoring and evaluating of livelihood and economic development interventions.
  • Prepare and regularly monitor annual budgets in line with project annual plans as required by WV Ghana or Donor.
  • Ensure the timely preparation and submission of financial reports and disbursement requests
  • Guide the field team on risk management processes to assess and manage the risks of potential alliances
  • Work closely with Program Officers, GESI specialists, Value Chain and market Linkage Specialists and MEAL specialists, key partners to build their capacity on integrated market-driven approaches into the THRIVE project and support them in identifying opportunities for replication and scale-up.
  • Support the development of sustainable livelihoods initiatives at the community.
  • Advise the project team on the THRIVE project in line with the implementation of Building Secure Livelihoods project model
  • Promote integration, synergy and coherence in World Vision Ghana programming through models like S4T, EWV, FAST,
  • LVCD, Climate-smart agriculture, conservation agriculture, FMNR
  • Provide technical advice on food Security, commercialization, environmental risks, biodiversity, climate change etc.
  • Document case studies of market-driven approaches in programming that demonstrate both social transformation and sustainable development outcomes of the interventions.
  • Conduct capacity assessments and facilitate institutional capacity building for partners

Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting, Learning and Knowledge Management

  • Use innovative approaches to monitor and evaluate performance, effectiveness/impacts of livelihood interventions
  • Conduct monitoring visits to project activities to assess progress against targets and to provide coaching and direction to activities in areas where improvements are needed.
  • Ensure the documentation of lessons learned, best practices success stories and project impacts for sharing at internal and external knowledge-sharing forums
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate reports that meet donor requirements.
  • Coordinate all evaluation activities such as; baseline, midterm, and end-line
  • Conduct research related to sustainable livelihood and economic development.
  • Lead periodic review of the Thrive 2030 project to regularly update key stakeholders
  • Ensure effective project reporting, communication and knowledge management on THRIVE 2030
  • Identify emerging project risks and respond to the risks appropriately

Partnering, Networking, External Engagements and Communication

  • Identify and build strategic linkages, relations, collaborations and networks with partners and other stakeholders in planning and implementation.
  • Build and maintain cordial relationships with the Ministry of Agriculture and other relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation of the economic development and livelihood component of the THRIVE project.
  • Increase the visibility of the project through engagement with relevant stakeholders
  • Conduct frequent monitoring to generate information on project implementation.
  • Build and strengthen effective relations with networks and promote cross-learning to enrich THRIVE economic development and livelihood programs.
  • Participate in networking meetings and guide members to obtain mutually beneficial and optimal ways to enhance livelihood activities.
  • Explore potential linkages and build alliances when appropriate to ensure optimal program quality.
  • Attend national and international organization events. Represent THRIVE project in economic development and sustainable livelihood fora, meetings, workshops, conferences and contribute to technical interactions and discussions.
  • Regularly meet with like-minded international and national agencies in-country
  • Ensure the mobilization and engagement of the faith community to ensure the participation of children and their families
  • Establish effective partnerships/relationships with zonal or district-level stakeholders, networks, coalitions, farmer groups or CVA working groups to transform dialogue among them

Grants Resource Acquisition

  • Identify problems and opportunities within your AP and formulate them into concepts and proposal for donor
  • Participate in the development of concept notes/proposals for resource acquisition especially livelihood interventions
  • Deliver quality programming to ensure strong technical branding/niche created from Thrive 2030 interventions
  • Build and strengthen relationship with private sector players or donors to explore funding opportunity
  • Generate evidence from our work in the field to attract donor funding
  • Work in collaboration with WVUS THRIVE team and other support offices to position for and pursue opportunities in the livelihoods and resilience sector

People management

  • Build the capacity of team members and motivate them to work effectively and efficiently
  • Manage a team of 5 direct technical staff
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to Technical Staff on the THRIVE Project including reviews of annual Performance Agreements and annual Appraisals in collaboration with their respective matrix supervisors; supporting staff’s learning and professional development
  • Promote a culture of respect and teamwork in the program
  • Cultivate and support diversity within the THRIVE team
  • Foster an environment of High morale, high performance and motivation among the THRIVE team.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Master’s Degree in Agriculture, Agriculture Economics, Agribusiness, Rural Development, Development Studies, Project Management, Social Sciences, International Development or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of directly relevant professional experience in the area of local economic development /livelihood development private sector engagement.
  • Working experience with Institutions involved in sustainable development/ community empowerment/ natural resource management
  • Previous experience as a Programme Manager with strong expertise in Livelihood, climate change and local value chain development Demonstrated management and supervisory skills
  • Ability to transfer knowledge and skills formally and informally to diverse audiences; desire and ability to mentor staff Proficient in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc

  • Work environment: National Office-based with frequent travel to the field
  • Travel: 40% Domestic/international travel is required.
