The Driver-CHANGE Project ensures that the Global Affairs Canada (GAC) funded “Championing Nutrition and Gender Equality (CHANGE)” project staff are driven safely to the field, meetings, workshops, and other work-related destinations.
The position is also responsible for planning trip routes and requirements by studying travel schedules and ensuring that the project vehicle under his/her charge is maintained in optimal working condition.
This role includes, but is not limited to:
Vehicle Maintenance -40% of Time
- Ensures that the assigned vehicle is compliant with Ghana national operating standards and CB vehicle management policy.
- Conducts standard checks of the vehicle every day before operating.
- Performs minor repairs, arranges for regular maintenance and ensures that the vehicle is kept clean and in good running condition at all times.
- Ensures safety and custody of the vehicle, including tools medical kits and any other equipment supplied with the vehicle and keep these tools from damage or misuse.
- Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, roadworthy, logs, office directory, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts are in the vehicle at all times.
- Ensures that, in the event the project vehicle is involved in an accident, all necessary steps stipulated in the CB vehicle management policy are followed.
- Ensures that all loads on or in the vehicle are properly secured.
- Operates the vehicle in accordance with national and local driving laws at all times.

Logistics Support -30% of Time
- Drives CHANGE project staff and officials to the field, meetings and workshops.
- Performs airport and bus terminal pick-up duties.
- Collects and delivers mails, packages and equipment; and maintains records of all deliveries and distributions.
- Assists the national and expatriate staff assigned to the vehicle with fieldwork as requested.
Administrative Support C-30% of Time
- Maintains records for vehicle, logs official trips, records daily mileage, records the use of fuel vouchers/tom cards, and submit monthly records on consumption to the CHANGE Project Finance and Administrative Officer as required.
- Obtains security clearance for field trips where necessary.
- Keeps track of insurance and roadworthy requirement and ensure documents are up to date at all times.
- Assist project staff in photocopying and maintaining stores when required.
- Assists in the mailing and distribution of newsletters, letters and publications and arranges to pay office bills as required.
Other:
- Comply with all CB policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties assigned by Supervisor.
The ideal candidate possesses:
Academic Requirements:
- Minimum of senior secondary/high school leaving certificate
- Valid driver’s license (Class B or C)
- Defensive driving certificate
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years work experience as a driver in a local or international non-governmental organization with a safe driving record
- Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, protocols and courtesies
- Conversant with the road network of Northern Ghana and traffic regulations of Ghana.
- Skills in minor vehicle repairs
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English. Ability to speak at least 2 local languages of project communities is desirable.
Computer Skills: Elementary use of computers (e.g. email, internet, word processing)
