Applications are invited from suitable persons to fill a vacancy in the post of Director, Accounting in the Parliamentary Service of Ghana.

Job Summary

  • The Director will provide strategic direction towards the attainment of the objectives of the Department of Accounting, as well as lead accounting professionals of the department to deliver on the mandate of the department
  • The Director will be responsible for implementing accounting policies and procedures and reporting on the accounting function to ensure strict compliance with accounting standards and legal obligations imposed on Parliament and Parliamentary Service

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Director, Accounting shall provide support to the Clerk and Management of the Parliamentary Service by performing the following duties

  • Propose policies and advise on guidelines in respect of accounting and financial management and administrative services relating to Parliament and the Parliamentary Service
  • Prepare accounts revenue and expenditure of Parliament and the Parliamentary Service in accordance with prescribed laws, regulations and standards (i.e International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS)

  • Prepare periodic accounting performance reports in accordance with prescribed laws, regulations and standards for public sector institutions in Ghana
  • Advise on the development of accounting systems and procedures as well as guidelines for efficient utilization and control of funds of Parliament and the Parliamentary Service
  • Maintain and keep proper books and records of accounts, including manual and electronic records, bank statements or any other statement on funds of Parliament and Parliamentary Service
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for the Department of Accounting to actualize the corporate strategic goals of Parliament and Parliamentary service
  • Prepare a budget for the Department of Accounting for incorporation into the annual budget of the institution
  • Conduct performance appraisal for staff of the Department of Accounting
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned

Qualification Required & Experience

  • A Chartered Accountant from a recognised professional body with at least 6 years post qualification experience, and 3 years in a position analogous to Deputy Director in a public service institution or a private sector institution and experience in Public Sector Accounting Plus
  • A good First Degree in Accounting from a recognised University
  • A Master’s Degree in a relevant field will be an added advantage

Age Limit: An Applicant should not be above 50 years of age on the date of appointment to the post
