Job Description
RISE is a five-year global project funded by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and USAID—that works with countries to achieve a shared vision of attaining and maintaining epidemic control, with stronger local partners capable of managing and achieving results through sustainable, self-reliant and resilient health systems.
The project is led by Jhpiego with the following partners: ICAP at Columbia University, Management Sciences for Health, Anova, BAO Systems, Johns Hopkins University Centre for Public Health and Human Rights, and Mann Global Health.
With funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), RISE is working in selected countries, including Ghana, to address the COVID-19 pandemic. In line with the ministry of health's priorities, the project is planning to rollout national vaccination plans, including ensuring health care workers are prepared to implement and monitor this plan; providing focused and clinically relevant capacity building for clinicians providing COVID-19 case management.
We are currently looking for dynamic individuals to fill the following positions: Nurse (Vaccination)
- Duration: 6 months
- Job Locations: Greater Accra, Ashanti, Eastern, Central, Volta, Bono, and Bono East Regions

Job Overview
The Vaccine Nurse will work closely with a team of providers and be responsible for the provision of COVAX vaccines services at allocated vaccination sites. The nurse must be dynamic, performance-driven and willing to work in a dynamic environment. Should be a quick learner and open to the new work environments.
The Vaccine Nurse will be responsible for providing COVAX vaccines at vaccination points. The position will also entail frequent travel to support outreach services in community settings. There will be close collaboration with Ministry of Health facilities responsible for the catchment areas being targeted. The position reports directly to the District RISE Team Lead.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides group and individual education on COVAX vaccine.
- Conducts screening to determine eligibility.
- Supports COVAX vaccine roll out in the district.
- Administers vaccines according to the guidelines.
- Manages and reports adverse events following immunization.
- Ensures safety for all personnel and clients that is adherence to three-bin system for infection control.
- Ensures vaccination points have requisite supplies that is vaccines, emergency drugs and other supplies to provide quality services.

- Observes clients for AEFI after vaccination and follow the guidelines if it happens.
- Together with the team:
- Ensures tools are filled properly at all times for quality data management
- Ensures AE following immunization are reported and documented
- Ensures availability of emergency drugs at vaccination points
- Works with M&E to ensure that data is well captured both manually and electronically; clients receive their vaccination certificates the same day and that data is used to improve performance.
- Ensures that set targets are always met at site level.
- Works closely with the district mobilisers, to ensure optimal demand creation for the vaccine.
- Participates in regular team meetings and proper documentation of minutes.
- Ensures effective inventory system for supplies, drugs and equipment.
- Performs any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Required Skills or Experience
- Diploma in Nursing (Degree preferred).
- Valid registration with the Ghana Registered Nurse Association.
- Minimum of 2 years relevant experience.
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, organizational and communication skills, with ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively in a demanding environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Computer Skills, including MS Office Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Willingness to travel within across the county.
