In particular, FOCOS seeks to enhance access to optimal surgical and non-surgical care for patients with disabling musculoskeletal disorders including complex spine deformities and pediatric orthopaedic problems in underserved regions. It began as a dream of the founder to see the best care reach the underserved in his native country, Ghana and the sub-Saharan region.
Job Description
Summary of Main Duties
OPD Clinics
- Follows up with patients’ due appointment
- Provide assistance in the management of clinical caseloads
- Assesses, determines and schedules the patients’ traffic flow for the clinic
- Assigns patients to relevant Physician (Medical Doctor/Physician Assessment)
- Follows up by phone post-op patients who may not need to travel long distances to see Physician
- Assists in the provision of continuous care by developing and implementing patient management plans
- Administer First Aid

Patients on Admission
- Ensures on daily basis the administration of medication
- Ensures daily that the necessary auxiliary medical services (Physiotherapy, Laboratory Dietherapy, orthotics etc.) are administered
- Ensures that discharge requirements for joint patients are adhered to.
- Assists with wound care, observes progress and report any concerns to surgeon
- Ensures all relevant paperwork are completed during stay and at discharge as required
Procedures
- Assists with minor procedures at the urgent care and or designated areas
- Periodically assist with surgery at the Theatre. (pre-op preparations, set-ups, closure of wound, suturing)
- Supports in the delivery of therapeutic procedures (disinfecting wounds, managing infections, suturing, administering injections etc.)
Research
- Oversees the completion of questionnaire for joint patients (and or assigned physicians patients)
- Liaises with the Research Department on input of relevant data relating to joint patients and actively participate in research activities when required
- Assists with proof-reading of research papers as required
Others
- Assists with the clinic of the Director for Medical Services/Consultant Family Physician in particular, with:
- Eliciting a comprehensive health history
- Performing physical examinations
- Interpreting and evaluating diagnostic data
- Establishing basic treatment plans
- Counseling and educating patients
- Responding to commonly encountered emergency care situations
- Performs any other duty that may be assigned

Required Skills or Experience
Education & Qualifications
- BSc in Physician Assistantship from a recognized institution
- A registered member of Medical and Dental Council
- At least one (1) year post rotation experience
- Evidence of Continuous Professional development
