The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) is looking for qualified, goal-oriented and results-driven persons with exceptional qualities for appointment to the following position.

SENIOR LEGAL OFFICER

 

JOB PURPOSE

To supports the Legal Unit in providing legal services to the Commission.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides inputs for the formulation and implementation of policies and guidelines on legal services;
  • Supervises the preparation of legal documents such as communiques, agreements and cabinet memoranda for the Head of Legal Services;
  • Represents the Commission in court, the National Labour Commission and in all judicial bodies as may be required;
  • Coordinates the collection and collation of data for all legal proceedings involving the Commission;
  • Supervises the processes for the resolution of cases that may not require court action;
  • Advises the Commission on judgments and orders of the Court or rulings of the National Labour Commission (NLC);
  • Prepares draft legal letters to parties in matters in which the Commission is involved;
  • Supervises the compilation of data for the preparation of annual work plan and budget for the Legal Unit of the Commission;
  • Supervises the compilation of data for the preparation of annual and other relevant reports on the operations of the Unit;
  • Supervises and appraises subordinates.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Must have been called to the Ghana Bar and practised progressively for a minimum of six (6) years in either public or private practice.

 

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND TECHNICAL ABILITIES

  • Good Knowledge of the Labour Laws of Ghana;
  • Good appreciation of the Civil Procedure;
  • Average skills in the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanism;
  • Excellent skills in Legislative Drafting;
  • Good knowledge of the public service
  • Excellent Technical Report Writing Skills;
  • Good Grievances Handling and Negotiations skills;
  • Average Change Management skills;
  • Good communication and presentation skills;
  • Good knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office
