Safi Sana is a pioneering enterprise which offers a solution to governments which do not have the means and budget for sewage treatment. We convert human and organic waste, collected from improved public toilets and organic waste sources (e.g. markets, abattoirs, agri/agro-industries), into added value products: electricity (sold to utilities or industries via a Power Purchase Agreement), irrigation water and high nutrient soil enhancer (sold to local farmers to increase agricultural yields). Safi Sana is recognized as the first waste-to- energy enterprise in West Africa.
The first commercial plant in Ashaiman serves approx. 50,000 people and treats 45 tonnes of waste every day, with a daily production capacity of 2400 kWh and 850 kg of compost. At scale, sales cover the operational costs of the whole process, which subsequently offers an affordable and reliable waste treatment solution to governments in low- and middle- income countries. Safi Sana takes pride in the fact that the plant is entirely managed by a team of local staff with remote support from HQ in the Netherlands.
Job purpose
